Registrar cancels Sanjay-Manyata marriage registration in Goa
Panaji, Feb 28 (UNI) The marriage of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt with Manyata, registered under the Portuguese civil code, 1867, stands annulled with the Salcete sub-registrar's office today accepting their joint declaration for cancellation of their wedlock made on February 7.
The civil registrar-cum-sub registrar Mr Chandrakant Pisurlekar told UNI here that the joint declaration, sent by the duo through their counsel yesterday, had been accepted and hence the proposal stands cancelled.
The couple, in their declaration, said they did not like their marriage registered under the Portuguese Civil Code, 1867 as was in vogue in Goa but wanted it to be done under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, which was not extended in Goa.
The duo said they were submitting the declaration out of their free will without any coercion and that the documents annexed therewith be withdrawn and cancelled from all legal effects.
Further process for registration of the marriage stands cancelled.
Generally, the marriage has to be registered within 90 days of receiving the proposal from the couple on February 7.
The marriage proposal was surrounded in controversy with the alleged submission of the documents and a fake residence certificate.
This resulted in suspension of the talati, who issued the impugned residence certificate and serving of a notice to Manyata for cancellation of the certificate.
