Washington, Feb.28 : At least nine Pakistani-American organisations have urged President Pervez Musharraf to resign in the wake of the results of the February 18, 2008 general elections.

Stating that "now that the people have spoken", the Pakistan-American Democratic Forum (PADF) that represented the nine groups, passed a six-point resolution at the weekend that demanded the restoration of the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan as it was on October 12, 1999, the reinstatement of the 60-plus judges, including sacked Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, and the rescinding of all new orders, procedures and rules including the PEMRA Order 2007 and the Code of Conduct, introduced to curb the independence of the media.

According to the Daily Times, the resolution further said that the incoming democratic government should institute an independent commission to inquire into the murders of Benazir Bhutto, Nawab Akbar Bugti and all those killed in mob violence. The new government should also mobilise its resources to put an end to interference by foreign agencies and governments in the internal affairs of Pakistan, it added.

The resolution bears the signatures of the Coalition of Pakistani American Organisations, the Indus Society, Kashmiri American Solidarity, Pakistan American Democratic Dialogue, the Pakistan American Democratic Forum, the Pakistan Christian Association, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, the Pakistan People's Party, and the Sindhi Association of America.
