GNDU, PU, DU enter semis of Inter-University Women Cricket

Amritsar, Feb 28 (UNI) Hosts Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Delhi University, Delhi entered the semi-finals of the North-East Zone Inter-University Women Cricket Championship being played here at the Guru Nanak Dev University Sports Complex.

Panjab University defeated Kurkushetra University, Kurukshetra by seven wickets in the first quarter-final played at Khalsa College Cricket Ground here. Kurkushetra University scored all out 96 runs in 26.4 overs. Panjab University achieved the target of 97 runs in 27.3 overs for a loss of three wickets in which Harpreet scored 23 and Sukhwinder hit 21 runs. Prema, Suman and Poonam got one wicket each.

Earlier, batting for Kurukshetra University, Ritika hit 19 runs while Manjit scored 16 runs. Bowling for Panjab University, Supriya got four wickets giving 25 runs and Priya got three wickets for two runs.

In the second quarter-final match, Delhi University beat MDU, Rohtak by one wicket. Delhi scored 148 for nine wickets in 32.2 overs.

Earlier, Rohtak University amassed 147 runs for nine wickets in 35 overs. Sunil scored 36, Neeru 33 and Pushpa 28 runs for Rohtak.

Shashi took 3 wickets for 20 and Ambhika grabbed 2 for 85 runs. On behalf of Delhi, Pooja hit 28, Shashi 25 not out, Palvi 22 and Mandeep 13 runs.

In another match, host GNDU outmatched Ranchi University by a margin of 167 runs. GNDU winning the toss elected to bat first and scored 233 runs losing 3 wickets. Sudha scored 89 not out, Richa 78 and Kamal 27 not out. Usha and Anjana took two wickets each for 34 and 18 runs respectively.

In reply to GNDU's tall score of 233, Ranchi University was all out for a meagre score of 66 runs. Sweta scored 29 while Usha scalped 14 runs. Kuldeep grabbed four wickets for 13 while Manvi and Komal took two wickets each.
