Eight bagasse based energy plants commissioned in Punjab

Chandigarh, Feb 28 (UNI) The Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) took a major step forward in its commitment to promote co-generation projects in the state with the commissioning of 104.25 MW capacity eight bagasse based projects today.

These projects have been set up with an investment of Rs 422 crores using PLC/SCADA mode.

The projects were dedicated to the nation at a function organised at the Solar Passive Complex of Peda here by state Science,Technology and Environment Minister Bikram Singh Majithia.

The eight cogeneration projects are of AB Sugars Ltd at Hoshiarpur, Rana Sugars Ltd at Amritsar, Abhishek Industries at Barnala, Chandigarh Distillers and Bottlers at Patiala, Nectar Life Sciences Ltd at Mohali, Setia Paper Mills at Muktsar, Shreyans Industries at Sangrur and A B Grain Spirits Pvt Ltd at Gurdaspur.

These projects have been facilitated by PEDA under the NRSE Policy-2006 under which the tariff for the current financial year (2007-08) is Rs 3.59 per Kwh.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Majithia said that with the inauguration of these projects, PEDA has already achieved 50 per cent target of co-generation for the next five years. Keeping in view the interest shown by the industrialist in co-generation, the target for next five years has been enhanced from 220 MW to 400 MW.
