Kohima, Feb 28 (UNI) Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) J Changkija today refuted the allegations levelled against him by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader I Imkong.

Mr Imkong, who is a Congress candidate from the Jangpenkong Assembly constituency in Mokokchung district, in a complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer, requested him to intervene in two incidents of violence that occurred in his constituency on February 26, where sophisticated guns were allegedly used.

Mr Imkong alleged that the weapons were supplied by the police armoury at the behest of the Nagaland DGP.

He also alleged that the DGP had instructed 20 police personnel to shoot at Congress supporters.

A number of people were injured and hospitalised in the incident.

However, in a release issued here today, the DGP refuted all the allegations.

''I wonder from where Mr Imkong, being a responsible leader in his own right, has obtained this information,'' the DGP stated.

He termed the allegations as ''very serious in nature and such accusations cannot be simply swept under the carpet and so they must come to a logical conclusion.'' Mr Changkija said the allegations were a direct assault on his integrity and had tarnished his image and therefore, he challenged the accuser to produce concrete proof.

The DGP also demanded that a high-level inquiry be constituted by the appropriate authorities to go into the details and facts of the incident.

''If I am proved guilty through this inquiry, I will accept whatever penalty is imposed on me,'' he stated.
