Chennai, Feb 27 (UNI) Former South African opener Kepler Wessels has been appointed as the coach of the India Cements-Chennai Super Kings team for BCCI's Indian Premier League (IPL).
Sources in India Cements, which has got the franchisee for the team, confirmed it to UNI today and said Wessels had been contracted for one year.
''He will assume charge during the middle of next month,'' the sources said.
He was the only candidate selected and no other names figured for the post.
The selection of coach was made by Team's selection panel members former Board selector V B Chandrasekhar and former Indian cricketer L Sivaramakrishnan.
The Chennai Super Kings in the bidding for the players, had virtually hit a jackpot putting up the highest bid in the auction for India's ODI and Twenty-20 skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The IPL matches are scheduled to begin in April and would be played on home and away basis.
