Tension in college after student meets with accident
Chennai, Feb 27 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Ponmar Village near Tambaram, about 20 km from here, after students of a private engineering college locked up the main gates of the campus blaming the management for the serious injuries sustained by a student involved in an eve-teasing incident.
Police said S Vijay (19), a second year BE (Information Technology) student of the Prince Venkateswara Engineering College, was barred from using the college bus for ten days after he indulged in eve-teasing.
Following this, he used to commute from his residence in Adambakkam to Medavakkam by MTC bus and hitch a ride to the college since the village was not connected by bus services.
Yesterday, after college, Vijay hitched a ride on a two-wheeler to Medavakkam.
When the motorcycle neared the Medavakkam Junction, it skidded off the road seriously injuring Vijay and the rider, M Ramkumar (28).
The duo were rushed to a private hospital where Ramkumar died.
Vijay was in the intensive care unit undergoing treatment.
