Rajkot, Feb 27 (UNI) A fast Track Court in Veraval has sentenced a teacher to ten-year rigorous imprisionment for raping a teenaged girl.
According to the prosecution, accused Kuman Gordhan Vekaria, a teacher at a High School at Talala in Junagadh district, had told the girl that she would secure good marks in the examination if she took tuitions at his house.
The victim, hailing from Khridhar village, was allegedly raped by the accused on February 15, 2003 at his house when she had come for tuitions. He threatened to kill her if she told anybody about it.
The parents of the victim lodged a complaint with police the next day. Later, the teacher.
Judge N G Baraiya pronounced his verdict yesterday and fined the accused Rs 40,000 and ordered him to pay a compensation of Rs 25,000 to the victim.
Meanwhile, in another case, Veraval Fast Track court Judge N N Parmar awarded life imprisonment to a man, who had burnt alive his wife at Khorasa-gir in Junagadh district.
The accused Bhikhabhai Aarsibhai Vadhiya (35) had set ablaze wife Rasila (32) after he raised doubts over her character on July 21, 2006. The severely injured woman was shifted to Junagadh civil hospital, where she succumbed to burn injuries. Rasila had given a dying declaration that her husband had set her ablaze after pouring kerosene on her.
The Judge also slapped a fine of Rs 1000 on the culprit.
