New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Congress MP from Outer Delhi Sajjan Kumar today met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and urged her to issue necessary guidelines to the Centre for announcing a special economic package for them on the pattern of the Employment Guarantee Act.
Mr Sajjan Kumar, who led thouands of farmers to Mrs Gandhi's residence to thank her for enhancing compensation package for farmers from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 75 lakh, also urged Mrs Gandhi that necessary provisions for small and marginal farmers be made in the ensuing Union Budget and the new Agricultural and Acquisition policy.
Mr Kumar, who was accompanied by MLAs Mukesh Sharma, Surinder Kumar, Mahabal Misra, Vijay Lochav, Anil Bhardwaj and others besides several Congress councillors in the MCD, urged that in villages where landless or Dalit families had been rendered jobless due to acquisition of agricultural land on which they were dependant for their livelihood, the new policy should contain provision for giving them avenues of alternative employment or income.
He urged Mrs Gandhi to take effective steps in this regard by issuing necessary directions to the state Government.
