LT Overseas forays into telecom sector, launches VoIP in JV

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Country's leading food processor company LT Overseas Ltd today said it has forayed into telecom sector through a Joint Venture (JV) with US-based communication service provider Cordia Corporation.

''The JV company, Cordia LT Communication Pvt Ltd, will initially offer Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services nationwide,'' Cordia LT's CEO M D Vanjani said.

The new company, with 51 per cent stake from LT Overseas Ltd and 49 per cent share with Cordia Corporation, has recieved a class 'A' ISP (Internet Service Provider) license from Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The company already has its own international gateway in New Delhi.

''The cake (Indian Telecom market) is too big and rapidly growing. We are targeting one per cent share of the international call market of India in the first year,'' he said.

We will be looking to provide WiMAX and other services in the future that can be carried on the network. Cordia LT's license allows us to provide voice, data and other value added services such as IPTV over both wire-line and wireless IP networks, Mr Vanjani added.

The company is targeting MNC's, Corporate Houses, SME's (export and import), Software companies, Call Centres, Public Call Office (PCO's), PSU's, Banks as well as individual as its customers. The company already has dealers in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Western UP, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and NCR while it is looking at other city/states to ensure a pan-India presence.

''We have proposals from other city/states and are in the process of finalising the list. It will be ready by the middle of April,'' Mr Vanjani said.

Cordia Corporation's CEO Joel Dupre said the company is coming with the technical experience and system successfuly used in over 60 countries and will look to provide services at competitive prices, with huge reduction in the bill and customer friendly approach.

''We are also working on a dual technology handset for GSM and WiMAX services. The handset will be manufactured in Taiwan, Korea or China. The reaserch is going on and we hope to provide the same in Indian market in the near future,'' Mr Dupre added.

The service, that can be accessed even without a computer, will only require a high speed internet connection, VoIP adapter (to be provided free by the company) and a normal landline connection.

The company is offering four plans for individual users of Rs 595 per month, Rs 995 per month, Rs 1,495 per month and Rs 2,495 per month).

In Business category it has four plans of Rs 695 per month, 1,295 per month, Rs1,995 per month and Rs 2,995 per month.
