India blank Thailand in World Team Table Tennis Championships

Guangzhou, China, Feb 27 (UNI) Indian men continued their fine showing as they thrashed Thailand 3-0 to finish top of their group, while the women defeated Estonia by an identical margin after the first stage of the World Team Table Tennis Championships here today.

With this win, the Indian men ended up with seven points from three wins and a loss, while the women have eight points from two losses and three wins.

Commonwealth and national champion Achanta Sharath Kamal put up a sterling performance, as he came back after losing the first to down Phakphoom Sanguansin 6-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-6.

Soumyadeep Roy defeated Phuchang Sanguansin 11-2, 3-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-6 in exciting encounter to give India an unassailable 2-0 lead.

Subhajit Saha then won the inconsequential third match, defeating Chaisit Chaitat in straight sets 11-9, 11-5, 11-6.
