IHG brings InterContinental and Holiday Inn to Capital

New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) The UK-based InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) today announced its stepped up presence in India with plans to set up two plush hotels -- InterContinental and Holiday Inn -- in the national capital.

The international hospitality brand will begin construction of Holiday Inn and InterContinental in Mayur Vihar, an eastern suburb of New Delhi, this year with completion set to take place in 2011.

The site for the two hotels is part of the Mayur Vihar business centre, which comprises office space, shopping malls, corporate housing and public buildings.

Announcing the plans, Michael Herrmann, Director of operations, IHG, South West Asia, said, ''Both these properties will further add to our planned growth in India. New Delhi is one of the most exciting business cities in the Indian sub-continent. With its booming IT and ITeS and numerous other industries, New Delhi commands amongst the highest average room rate demand in the country.'' Herrmann said the two new Holiday Inn and InterContinental properties would adhere to the company's international standards and would contribute 500 rooms to the growing room demand of the city.

The planned properties will be managed by IHG and developed by Eros, a leading real estate developer in India. IHG has an existing relationship with Eros, which will be further enhanced with the signing of this deal.

Mr Amit Rai Sood, Director, InterContinental Eros, said, ''The signing of the InterContinental and the Holiday Inn, Mayur Vihar has further strengthened our already strong relationship with IHG. The fact that both the properties are adjoining each other, gives us the opportunity to target a very wide market segment.'' Intercontinental Mayur Vihar will have 200 rooms and Holiday Inn Mayur Vihar will have 264 rooms. Both these hotels will have substantial meeting facilities and will primarily cater to the corporate segment. The hotels will also benefit from corporates in East Delhi, IT Parks in Noida, industrial belt in Ghaziabad and the overflow from Connaught Place and South Delhi.
