CBI closes report against 13 policemen in fake encounter case
New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) The CBI today filed closure report against 13 policemen accused of a fake encounter six years ago.
On January 11, 2002 Rupinder alias Kanu Jat was killed by the special staff of east Delhi police in an encounter in Trilokpuri area.
On the direction of Delhi High Court, CBI had registered a case against the policemen the policemen and investigated the matter. It was found that there was no fingerprints of the deceased on the revolver recovered from him. There was no residue of the gun shot fired and the deceased did not have any weapon in his hand also.
The CBI approached the Delhi Police Commissioner for grant of sanction for proceeding against these police officials but the Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna did not do so stating that this case does not deserve sanction for prosecution.
In the absence of sanction, the CBI was compelled to file a closure report before the court. The court fixed March 10 for the consideration of the matter.
