Kanpur, Feb 27 (UNI) As many as 9,000 advocates boycotted court work here today to protest police action on Farrukhabad lawyers yesterday.

The call of boycotting the Judicial work was given jointly by the Bar Association and the Lawyers Association, sources said.

The lawyers also held a meeting at Bar Association and condemned the police lathicharge on the Farrukhabad lawyers, who were protesting the non-registration of complaint by police over the murder of their colleague.

The agitators had also burnt the effigy of Farrukhabad police administration yesterday, alleging the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh was deteriorating day-by-day.

Later, they had manhandled the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and vandalised many police vehicles.

The protesting lawyers had also blocked a road and disrupted vehicular movement, which was, however, later lifted.

To quell the mob, police had to resort to brick-batting.

At least 20 persons, including 12 policemen, were injured in the incident, SP Laxmi Singh had said.

On February 24, advocate Arun Kumar Mishra was looted and murdered by armed assailants when he was returning from Etah.

Meanwhile, posse of police has been garrisoned at the court compound to prevent any fresh violence.
