UNPA urges Election Commission to discontinue EVMs use
New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) The United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) leaders today submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission demanding discontinuation of the present system of using Electronic Voting Machines(EVMS) on the ground that their working was faulty.
A UNPA delegation met the Chief Election Commissioner and told him that many developed countries do not use EVM as the system was not fool proof and if anything went wrong there was no way of verifying it.
The delegation, led by Samajwadi Party Chief and UNPA chairman Mulayam Singh Yadav, comprised TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala, Asom Gana Parishad chief Brindavan Goswami and Jharkhand Vikas Party chief Babulal Marandi.
They urged the EC to first subject the whole system to a fresh scrutiny and introduce it after refining it.
