New Delhi, Feb 26 : Supachai Panitchpakdi, Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here on Monday.

Panitchpakdi's visit to India comes ahead of the 12th session of the UNCTAD in Accra, Ghana in April where its 193 member-nations would hold discussions on the equitable spread of globalization.

UNCTAD will also permit decision-makers to tackle current and pressing issues such as energy security, migration and the emergence of developing countries.

With Ghana as host, the conference offers an opportunity to put the spotlight on Africa's role in the international economy, given that too many people in Africa are not sharing in the gains of globalization.

India wants to focus on issues related to migration, over-subsidization of agriculture in developed countries that affect the livelihood of the small and marginal farmers in developing countries, food security and conventional agricultural practices.
