Some trains to have on-board cleaning of toilets

New Delhi, Feb 26: All mail/Express trains will have Modular toilets which will be ergonomically designed with attractive interiors and on-board cleaning through trained manpower using modern machines and material, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad announced today.

The 2007-2008 Railway Budget presented by Mr Prasad in the Lok Sabha, provides for Mudular toilets in Mail/Express trains, besides Rajdhani and Shatabdi. The toilets will be ergonomically designed with attrative interiors and will have better arrangements for cleanliness and hygiene, water discharge, air circulation and illumination. It has also been decided to have on-board cleaning of all Shatabdi, Rajdhani and Superfast Mail and Express trains through trained manpower of professional agencies using modern machines and material.

Presently cleaning of passenger trains is mostly done at the originating station and for long-distance trains at one of the intermediate stations. There is no provision for regular on-board cleaning.

A pilot project had been started for on-board cleaning by some professional agancies on some Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains.
