Kapurthala, Feb 26 (UNI) More than two hundred activists of Scheduled Caste Sangarsh Committee today blocked the vehicular traffic for more than three hours at two different points in the city to demand the arrest of Punjab State Electricty Board (PSEB) Kapurthala circle Deputy Chief Engineer TS Thind.

Kapurthala police had registered a criminal case under the SC/ST Act against Thind on January 3 on the directions of National Commission for Scheduled Castes on the complaint of one Raj Kumar, who had alleged that Thind abused him when he met him in the circle office on September 3 to hand over an application for the reinstatement of his father Satpal, an Assistant Junior Engineer in PSEB, who was suspended by the department on the alleged corruption charges.

After the registration of case, SSP Rakesh Aggarwal had ordered an inquiry and deputed SP (Detective) Sukhwinder Singh to conduct the inquiry which was yet to be completed.

The members of the Sangarsh Committee first staged a dharna near Amritsar Octroi post on Kapurthala-Goindwal road and blocked the vehicular traffic there. The dharna was lifted following assurance given by ADC (General) Gurnam Singh and SP (Headquarter) Chaman lal that the inquiry against Thind would be completed within ten days and also assured the arrest of Thind if he was found guilty in the inquiry.

However, after lifting the dharna, the agitators went in procession to DC chowk where they again staged a dharna and blocked the traffic for more than half an hour to demand written assurance from the police to complete the inquiry within ten days. They lifted the dharna following written assurance given by city DSP S S Chinna.

Meanwhile, PSEB Engineers Association has also threatened to launch an agitation in case the criminal case against Thind is not withdrawn.
