Nagraj, Jyothi fastest man and woman athletes

Bhopal, Feb 26 (UNI) Jharkhand's B G Nagraj and H M Jyothi of Andhra emerged the fastest man and woman respectively in the 14 Federation Cup Athletics meet here today.

Nagraj touched the tape in 10.70sec to retain his gold in 100m event, ahead of Jamaluddin (10.81) and Ritesh Anand (10.87).

In the 100m women's event, Jyothi won the gold in 11.89sec, while Mandeep Kaur got the silver with the timing of 11.93sec.

However, in women's 100m hurdles, meet record and national record holder Anuradha Biswal of Orissa was disqualified for not confirming her participation in 100m heats held earlier in day.

Though, she won the hurdles with a timing of 13.75sec, she had to forfeit her medal. Poonam Bojanna of Jharkhand, who finished behind Biswal, was declared the winner with a timing of 14.13sec followed by Shreema Priyadharshini (14.22s).

In men's triple Jump, Indian Grand Prix winner Amarjeet Singh didn't get a tough challenge in the absence of Renjith Maheswari, who is in the US for training.

His sequence of attempts are 15.78, 15.53, x, x, 16.19, 16.15, enough to fetch him the gold. Surender Singh won the 5000m men's gold in the 14.16:18sec.
