Kumble at sixth spot in ICC Test rankings

By Staff

Dubai, Feb 26 (UNI) Sachin Tendulkar continued to be the highest ranked Indian batsman at the 12th position while Anil Kumble occupies the sixth place in the latest LG ICC Test Rankings.

Rahul Dravid is at the 15th spot while VVS Laxman is 17th in the list which saw no major changes from last week.

Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara occupies the top spot. He is followed by Micheal Hussey and Ricky Ponting at the second and third spots respectively.

However, South African batsman Jacques Kallis has dropped out of top three of the Rankings after a disappointing first Test which the visitors won by five wickets in Dhaka yesterday.

Kallis had entered the series with an outside chance of displacing Sangakkara from the top spot. But for that to happen, he had to score heavily in the two-Test series. The 32-year-old could score only 17 and seven which resulted in him slipping two places to fourth position.

Among the bowlers, Zaheer Khan is at the 13th spot while Irfan Pathan is at the 18th position.

Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is the highest ranked bowler with South African Dale Steyn and Australian pacer Stuart Clark at the second and third spots respectively.

There is no change in the LG ICC Player Rankings for Test all-rounders as Irfan Pathan occupies fifth spot while Kallis continues to enjoy a commanding lead over rest of the field.

Whereas Andrew Flintoff from England and New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori at the second and third position respectively.
