Shimla, Feb.26 : Located about 23 kilometers from Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, Kufri is a major draw for honeymooners and international tourists, especially during the winters. Besides fun n' frolic at this snow covered hill station, most tourists enjoy being clicked in traditional dress.
For the last two decades, a group of 60 photographers, who recently formed an association, are contributing to the promotion of Himachal Pradesh culture at this small tourist destination in a special way.
These photographers offer colourful traditional costumes to tourists enabling them to carry home sweet memories of Himachal Pradesh's local life.
"Tourists from different parts of India and the world come to Kufri to enjoy its beauty. These tourists prefer to take photographs in traditional Himachal dresses and this is providing us with business and helping to promote our rich culture and traditions across the globe," said Suresh Sharma, the Vice President of the Snow View Photographers Association.
Photographers charge between rupees 40 to 180 from visitors wanting photographs of themselves. There are no charges for returnable dresses.
"The dress we are wearing is very great. It looks really good" said Sulan, a tourist from remote Nagaland.
Abeni, another Nagamese, described the attire is very pleasant and colourful.
The potential to earn a sizeable amount during the winter season is even inspiring for for local youth to take up photography seriously. By Hemant Chauhan
