New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Hamza Mujtaba grabbed a brace as Indian Oil downed Air India (North) and Bharat Petroleum thrashed Army XI to enter the final of the 4th Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Tournament here today.
In an exciting encounter, Air India took an early lead as former international Sandeep Micheal scored a fine goal in the sixth minute. But Indian Oil soon drew level through a field goal by Tyron Pereira (17th) as the teams went into the half-time break with the score at 1-1.
The Airmen regained the lead in the second half as Arjun Halappa hit the target in the 48th minute, however, Mujtaba restored parity in the 56th minute.
The oilmen stepped up the pressure towards the end and surged into the lead as Deedar Singh (62nd) slammed home a penalty corner.
Mujtaba scored his second goal in the 65th minute as Indian Oil emerged 4-2 winners.
In the other semi-final, Bharat Petroleum totally dominated the proceedings as they halted Army XI's fine run in the tournament.
Hari Prasad (16th) scored the only goal of the first half to give Bharat Petroleum a 1-0 lead before half-time.
In the second half, Ravi Pal Singh (45th), Gurpreet Singh (63rd, PC) and Amar Aiyamma (65th) hit home as Bharat Petroleum emerged victorious with a 4-0 scoreline.
Indian Oil and Bharat Petroleum will take on each other in the final tomorrow.
