Malda, Feb 25 (UNI) A fox, killed four deer, which reportedly died of unusual reasons yesterday, in Harishchandrapur Block II under Chachal Sub-division of the district.
Divisinal Forest Officer Rajendra Jaffar today said, ''The post mortem results revealed that the deer, which were among the 16 deer set free in these reserve forests in 2006, were killed by a fox attack.'' The forest is gaurded by concrete wall defended by barbed wires, there is no way any animal could have broken into the area, Mr Jaffar said and added that further investigations showed that the fox had dug underneath the wall and creeped u under it and attakced the deer.
He further stated that this is the first time such a thing has happened in these forests.
The department then took the action of transferring these animals to another more safer environment.
When these deer were being taken out of the forest, the villagers stopped them saying that these deer have enriched the environment of the locality, taking the deer will adversely affect the ecology.
