Expert stresses on micro precision neurosurgery

Chennai, Feb 26 (UNI) Renowned Neurosurgeon Dr Hirotoshi Sano, Professor and Chairman of Neurosurgery, Fujita Health University of Japan, gave an insight into micro precision neurosurgery of aneurysms to about 150 neurosurgeons, drawn from various parts of the country and abroad at Sri Ramachandra University (SRU).

Delivering the 'Founder-Chancellor N P V Ramasamy Udayar' oration in Neurosciencies at the University campus yesterday at suburban Porur, Dr Sano used the operating microscope camera images of a live surgery, to explain the safe and unsafe ways for clippings and deft surgery.

Dr Sano, who has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for performing the maximum number of surgeries for cerebral aneurysms, used some of the latest tools and titanium implants to enlighten the neurosurgeons.

The oration coincided with the two-day Indo-Japanese Neurosurgery conference to mark the 15the anniversary of the Neurosurgery department of SRU.

Renowned neurosurgeons, participating in the conference were discussing cutting edge neurosurgical techniques, including microsurgical endovascular modalities for intracranial aneurysms, neuro immunology, surgical management of interactable epilepsy and stroke network for its acture management.

At the conference, SRU Chancellor V R Venkatachalam honoured Prof C U Velmurugendran, Head of the Department, Neurology, SRU on his being awarded Padmashri by the Centre.
