Decision on waiver of farmers loan soon: Patil
Sangli, Maharashtra, Feb 25 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil today said the centre's decision to waive off farmers loan is expected soon.
An announcement to this effect was made by Mr Patil, who also holds Home portfolio, at a function after unveiling of a statue at Walva in the district. The function was presided by state co-operation minister Patangrao Kadam.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar are looking into the issue and the decision will be helpful to the farmers, he said adding the announcement could be made during the Budget presentation.
The incidents of suicide by farmers had taken place during previous Shiv Sena-BJP alliance government. But now as they in opposition, they were highlighting the farmers' suicides for political gains, Mr Patil said.
The state government was making concerted efforts to extend the government's share in the relief package to farmers, he added.
