New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) Cutting across party lines, the leaders of Telegu Desam Party, BJP and Left parties, including those of CPI-ML, from Andhra Pradesh today staged a demonstration near Parliament House and courted arrest demanding the announcement of the higher Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy at Rs 1000 per quintal by the Centre.
The leaders leading the protest were subjected to force by police personnel posted near Patel Chowk when they tried to march towards Parliament, CPI's Farmers' Front leader Atul Kumar Anjaan told UNI.
He said they were demanding the enhancement of MSP for the crops as recommended by the National Commission on Farmers headed by Dr M S Swaminathan.
The Commission has recommended the MSP per quintal for paddy at Rs 1000, jawar at Rs 1137, maize Rs 925, groundnut at Rs 2720, soyabean at Rs 1658 and cotton at Rs 3508.
