Mumbai, Feb 25 :The two-day nation-wide bank strike, which was to begin today, has been deferred following a broad understanding reached between the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella organisation of all the nine unions representing bank employees and officers, and the Indian Bank Association (IBA) early this morning.

United Forum of Banks Union (UFBU) spokesman told to the sources that the Forum members are meeting IBA representatives today to iron out the differences and resolve the demands which include dropping of merger of associate banks with State Bank of India (SBI), wage revision, another pension option and termination of contract employment.

The UBFU had called for a strike in which about 10 lakh employees and officers of public and private sector and foreign banks were to take part. The unions had announced an indefinite strike from March 24 pertaining to their demands, which included opposing mergers among public sector banks.
