No liquor shops in vicinity of schools, hospitals in UP: SC
New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed that no liquor shop will be allowed in Uttar Pradesh within a radius of 100 metres from educational institutions, hospitals and religious places.
A bench comprising Justices A K Mathur and Aftab Alam issued the directions on the petition filed by the Uttar Pradesh government challenging the Allahabad High Court order permitting liquor shops in close vicinity of schools in Lucknow.
Acccording to the UP government, sale of liquor in the vicinity of schools, hospitals and religious places can be a source of public nuisance and spoil the atmosphere around such places. It will also result in disturbing the peace required around such places.
