Srinagar, Feb 25 (UNI) In Jammu and Kashmir ''Justice'' is now a simple application away as Lok Adalats are getting very popular to settle cases, pending in the courts for decades.
Thousands of cases, pending for the past several decades in different courts of the state , were settled amicably between rival parties through Lok Adalats held in length and breadth of the Jammu and Kashmir during the past one month.
Despite heaviest snowfall in 20 years in the second week of this month, people braving chill and walking over snowbound roads, reached to the courts where thousands of cases of different nature were taken up for hearing.
Two mega adalats were held in Srinagar and Jammu district courts where compensation worth crores of rupees was awarded by the judges after mutual agreement between the parties.
An official spokesman said a Lok Adalat was conducted under the chairmanship of Principal District and Sessions Judge Baramulla, Sheikh Ghulam Nabi Yesterday, who is also Chairman of District Legal Services Authority for the district.
He said out of 33 cases of different nature which were taken up for hearing, 29 were settled amicably between the parties.
Interestingly, the adalats settled a pre-litigation case pertaining to land dispute on a simple application which otherwise take years during normal legal proceedings.
It also settled motor accident, maintenance related cases amicably between parties.
