Kolkata, Feb 25 (UNI) Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council administrator Subash Ghisingh met West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi at the Raj Bhavan today and apprised him of the situation in the hills.
Mr Ghisingh, who had been in the city for the past few days, also met Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on February 23.
Refusing to bow to the demand of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), he had told reporters that there was no question of his stepping down from the present post till the term was over next month.
The beleagured Gorkha leader, who used to hold sway in Darjeeling, was facing a formidable challenge to his authority for the first time in two decades with GJM, a breakaway group of his party Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF), demanding his ouster and reviving the separate statehood demand.
Mr Ghising was confined to Pintail Village, a resort three km from Siliguri, since Monday following a siege to the hills by the GJM activists before arriving in Kolkata yesterday to meet the Chief Minister.
