Sambalpur, Feb 25 (UNI) Four youths were arrested today in connection with the alleged gangrape of a University girl here on Saturday last.
Sambalpur Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar said the arrested youths involved in the rape case had been identified as Kapil Das, Aman, Annu and Munir. They were taken to the court today and later sent to jail custody.
The SP said he would request the fast track court to dispose of the case at the earliest so that the victim gets justice soon.
Students of Gangadhar Meher (Autonomous) College here and Sambalpur University at Burla, however, blocked roads and National Highway (NH) at different places demanding exemplary punishment against the culprits.
The agitating students withdrew the blockade after District Collector Pradipta Patnaik assured them of stringent action against the culprits.
But students of Sambalpur University continued the blockade of NH 6 till evening. They ransacked the university office protesting the callousness of the hostel warden and superintendent.
Police said the first year MCA girl admitted to the V S S Medical College and Hospital, is yet to regain her sense but she was improving.
The medical test will be done only after the girl regained her sense as her consent was also required, Medical Superintendent Dr Akshya Nayak said.
Meanwhile, Sambalpur University SC/ST Student Union Nihal Singh demanded retrenchment of all university staff responsible for this unfortunate incident.
Sambalpur University sources said the girl was found in a critical and unconscious condition near a nursing home at Sakhipara yesterday. Local people brought her to the district headquarters hospital in a critical condition.
The girl was allegedly gangraped near the ''deer park'' and was dropped near the nursing home by the culprits.
