Lucknow, Feb 25 (UNI) Much against its wishes, Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state of the country, is not likely to get any new Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Management (IIM).
The Union Government had announced to set up eight new IITs and seven new IIMs during the 11th five year plan but UP is not likely to receive any favour from the Centre in this regard.
In reply to a letter from the UP government, the Union Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Arjun Singh has said the location of four out of eight new IITs and one new IIM has been decided. It was officialy learnt here that UP has got neither of them.
Mr Singh, in his letter to the state government, has said that the request of the state government would be considered after other locations of the premier institutes are decided.
The Union HRD minister has also mentioned that UP already had two IITs (Kanpur and BHU), one IIM (Lucknow), four central universities and One Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) at Allahabad.
