Chittoor, Feb 25: M K Azhagiri, the main accused in the murder of DMK leader and former Minister T Kiruttinan in 2003, appeared before the First Additional District Sessions Judge here today.

When the case came up for hearing, Judge P Durgaprasad adjourned the hearing to March 12.

Mr Azhagiri and 12 other accused appeared before the court, amidst tight security.

Mr Azhagiri is the elder son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

The case was transferred to Chittoor district following a Supreme Court direction on a petition filed by one of the witnesses, who had submitted that a free and fair trial would not be possible if the case was heard in Tamil Nadu as the accused owned allegiance to the ruling DMK.

Kiruttinan was murdered near his residence in Madurai city on May 20, 2003 when he was on a regular morning walk.
