11 killed, 54 injured in road accidents in TN

Tiruchirapalli, Feb 25 (UNI) Eleven people, including two women, were killed and 54 others injured in different road accidents in Tamil Nadu since last night.

Police said three members of a family were killed when the motorcycle on which they were riding, was hit by a speeding town bus at Alwarkurichi village, near here last night.

The deceased were identified as A Kannan, his wife K Revathy and their four-year-old son K Hariharan.

In another accident, two persons, including a bus driver, were killed and 27 injured when a state-owned city bus dashed against a roadside tree at Kalipetti village on the Tiruchirapalli-Thuraiyur state highway yesterday.

The deceased were the driver Jayapal and a passenger Venkatesh.

While 16 of the injured, were admitted to the Government hospital here, 11 were undergoing treatment at the government hospital in Thuraiyur, police said.

In another incident, a 30-year-old woman was killed on the spot and 17 others were injured when a mini-lorry in which they were travelling overturned near Thuvarankurchi about 70 km from here today.

While 10 of the injured were admitted to Headquarters Hospital at Tiruchirapalli, seven were admitted to Government hospital at Manapparai here.

In another road accident at Sithampur village on the Tiruchirapalli-Pudukottai National Highway, a van driver was killed and ten others were injured when the vehicle in which they were travelling overturned.

All the injured were admitted to Government Headquarters hospital at Pudukottai.

In another incident, two persons were killed when a sugarcane laden tractor in which they were travelling overturned at Karuvattuvari village in the Pudukottai district early today.

However, the tractor driver managed to escape by jumbing out of the vehicle.

In another head-on collision, two motorbike riders were killed on the spot at Vellatharai village in Karur district. Due to the impact, both the motorbikes caught fire and were completely damaged police said.
