Six cops suspended for torturing boys
Bangalore, Feb 24 (UNI) Six police personnel, including a woman head constable, were suspended for subjecting three juvenile boys to third degree torture while in detention in a city police station.
City Police Commissioner Neelam Achyuta Rao yesterday ordered the suspension of a Circle Inspector, a Sub-Inspector, an ASI, the woman head constable and two other constables.
The suspension came after State Human Rights Commission Chairman Mr Justice S R Nayak took serious note of the incident, issued notices and initiated action against the ruthless police personnel.
The three minors had been detained by the Hanumanthnagar police station on February eight on the charge of committing theft and were subjected to electric shocks and other third degree methods, it was alleged.
In protest against the police torture, several NGOs staged a demonstration and demanded action against the erring police officials -- Inspector Dharmesh, Sub-inspector M R Lava, ASI Shivanna, Head Constable Renuka and constables Ramesh and Lakshmana.
The boys who were allegedly brutally treated in the police station have been sent to a juvenile home.
