Moga, Feb 24 (UNI) A retired army officer was killed and four members of his family and three policemen were injured in a head-on collision between a car and a police highway patrol vehicle near Gill village on Moga-Kotkapura road this morning.
According to police sources, poor visibility due to dense fog was the cause of the accident.
While Col (retd) Jaswant Singh died on the spot, his family members who were with him in the car sustained injuries when their vehicle rammed into a police patrol van. The injured included the Colonel's son, Satnam Singh (55), his grandson Harkirat Singh (21), daughter-in-law, Neelam (45) and his daughter, Ravinder Kaur.
The injured cops who were in the mobile van were identified as head constables Atma Singh and Gurmit Singh and constable Sukhvinder Singh. All the injured were admitted at the local civil hospital.
The Colonel's family was proceeding to Abohar from Jalandhar while the police mobile highway patrol was on duty on the Moga-Baghapurana road.
Meanwhile in another accident a speeding car coming from Ludhiana collided head-on with a tractor-trolley near Mehna police station killing one person. The victim identified as Jasvir Singh of Kaonke village fell off from the tractor and died on the spot.
