Kohima, Feb 24 (UNI) Although Congress leader I Imkong has began campaign from Mokokchung, Mon and Tuensang, it is still lagging behind Nagaland Peoples Front(NPF)in its electioneering.
The reason of low campaign is want of star campaigners in the present Congress party in Nagaland and the absence of former Chief Minister and present Goa Governor S C Jamir in the state politics, which is for the first time in the political history of Nagaland and who was leading all campaigns earlier.
Except Imkong, there are no visible campaigners for Congress in the state.
Another setback for Congress was the selection of candidates for the assembly elections, where many stalwarts did not get their tickets and are revolting against the Congress leadership in the state.
Former Nagaland assembly Speakers Zhovehu Lohe (Chizami A/C in Phek) and Neiba Ndang (Peren A/C in Peren), former Ministers P.
Enyei Konyak (Wakching A/C in Mon), Zachilhu (Phek A/C in Phek), T.
Tali (Tuli A/C Mokokchung), Rokonicha (Ghaswpani-II/Dimapur, Dr Kakheto (Ghaspani-II in Dimapur) Nuzota Swuro, NPCC Vice-President (Chozouba in Phek) and former legislator Asu Keyho (Western Angami in Kohima) have not got their tickets.
Lohe came out openly to support the NPF in the Phek district and attended several rallies in the district with NPF campaigners including former CM Neiphiu Rio. Rokonicha was allotted NPF ticket.
Asu Keyho also filed his nomination as an Independent candidate.
But the others are silent so far, some of them are reportedly working to see the defeat the official Congress candidate. Nuzota, who is not revolting attended several Congress meeting in Kohima and Phek district.
Among the NPF defectors, former Ministers who got Congress tickets are Vatsu Meru got for Peren A/C, Kewekhape Therie for Pfutsero A/C in Phek, Z. Obed for Kohima town, Tokheho Yepthomi for Agunato under Zunheboto, I. Kheto Sema for Akuluto under Zunheboto, Tiameren Aier, resigned from BJP for Alongtaki in Mokokchung.
T. Tali from Tuli A/C under Mokokchung district and Yeangphong Konyak, sitting NPF legislator from Tizit in Mon district, who defected from the party, are fighting as the Independent candidates.
Former NPF Nkhao Lotha is fighting from Sanis in Wokha on RJD ticket, while former Independent Minister Khutovi is fighting in Congress ticket from Suruhoto A/C under Zunhoboto district.
BJP President Rajnath Singh yesterday made a whirlwind tour to Longleng, Tuensang and Wokha towns and addressed the rallies there.
While the RJD, NCP, JD(U), JD(S) and LJP are yet to start campaign and they are still in a process to bring some national leaders to the state for star campaigning.
