Chennai, Feb 24: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today greeted President Pratibha Devisingh Patil on the eve of her becoming the first woman president to address a joint session of the Parliament.
In a letter to the President, a copy of which was released to the media here, he said ''it is a great day for Indian democracy and a new chapter commences in the history of Independent India''.
''In the Republic of India, which is now 58 years old, you are the first woman going to deliver the Presidential Address tomorrow in the joint session of the Parliament'', he added.
''The UPA government at the Centre is instrumental for this big change. On this historic occasion, I wish to convey my hearty congratulations to you on behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu'', Mr Karunanidhi said.
