New Delhi, Feb 24 (UNI) The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will soon launch an Agriculture Channel, University Pro Vice Chancellor Latha Pillai announced today.
Addressing a brain storming session on "Reaching the Unreached: Agriculture Education" through Open and Distance Learning (ODL), Prof Pillai emphasised on capacity building in the agriculture and allied sectors.
The recommendation of session included development of programmes for in-service and continuing education, certification of farmers, development of need based vocational and awareness programmes and pedagogy should try to use the traditional knowledge available with the farmers during the content preparation for various programmes.
The delegates insisted upon providing more publicity for the ongoing and new agriculture programmes at regional level.
The new areas for development of the programmes as identified by the house included nursery management, seed production, apiculture, export and trade, legal education to farmers and cooperative farming.
The objective of the session was to review the ongoing programmes of School of Agriculture and to prepare a road map for future direction in the back drop of focus being given to the agriculture sector at national level by the government.
The participants at the session included Vice-Chancellors of State Agriculture Universities, scientists and academicians from ICAR institutes and other national institutes, including Indian Institute for Information Technology and Management.
