Half Marathon for a noble cause in Punjab

Jalandhar, Feb 24 : Punjab played host to the second half marathon, which saw participation of people from all walks of life running for a noble cause on Sunday.

The 21-kilometre half marathon started from Shahpur Campus, and ended at Maqsudan Institute in Jalandhar.

Well-known Punjabi comedian Gurpreet Ghugi flagged off the marathon.

The marathon, which is into its second year, now had evoked considerable interest among sponsors and participants alike.

The organiser of the Marathon, Charanjeet Singh Channi, said the marathon reflected the true spirit of the city and the proceeding of the same was going for a noble cause which included donations for specially challenged and under privileged children.

"The main theme of the marathon is to spread the message in today's youth to stay away from drugs and other theme was charity. By this marathon we want to spread the message that they should say 'No to Drugs'. Secondly we will donate the money to the charitable organisations like Pingalwara and Red Cross Society," said Channi.

People from cross-section of society took part in the marathon. They included corporate executives, school children, the young and the old.

The glamour quotient of the run was kept high by the well-known Punjabi comedian Ghugi. He was elated on being the part of this noble cause.

"I think CT (Channi Trust) Institute's role in giving a new direction to the youth of today is commendable. Last year they had started this marathon but unfortunately I could not attend it but honestly I did not think that they would organise it this year too but I'm happy to be a part of this half marathon," said Ghugi.

The winner of the men's half marathon Jatinder singh and women's half marathon Jasbeer Kaur walked away with Rupees 21,000 each as the prize money.
