Islamabad, Feb.24: India's High Commissioner to Pakistan, Satyabrata Pal, met Pakistan People's Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari to congratulate him on his party's performance in elections. They also discussed emerging political situation, sources said. Pal also offered his condolences to Zardari, whose wife former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated on December 27. Zardari also met former federal minister Anwar Saifullah Khan, former chief minister Punjab Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo and Maulana Fazl Rehman on Saturday.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman also held an important meeting with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. Other JUI (F) leaders including former NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani, Amjad Khan, Gul Naseeb and Mufti Abrar Ahmed were also present in the meeting.

They exchanged views on important issues including formation of new government during the meeting, which lasted for two and half an hour. It was the right of PPP and PML (N) to form the coalition government has the people had given them the mandate in the elections, Fazl said. "We accept the results of the elections despite some reservations," he said.

According to the Dawn, Zardari had met envoys from several countries, including the US and UK, after Feb 18 elections in which his PPP emerged as the largest party.
