Chennai, Feb 24: Party functionaries and workers celebrated the 60th birthday of Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa on Feb 24. The functionaries and party workers vied with one another in organising various events, including mass feeding of the poor. Senior party leaders also pulled a temple chariot and offered special poojas. All-religion prayers were also organised.
The AIADMK headquarters wore a festive look as scores of partymen celebrated the day by bursting crackers and distributing sweets. A souvenir brought out by the party was released by AIADMK Presidium Chairman E Madhusoodanan. AIADMK R K Nagar MLA P K Sekar Babu cut a 60 kg cake and distributed it to the partymen. Amid reports of BJP closing ranks with its once estranged partner for a possible poll tie-up, senior BJP leaders including Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and BJP Tamil Nadu Observer Ravi Shankar Prasad greeted Ms Jayalalithaa over phone.
On her part, Ms Jayalalithaa solmenised marriages of 60 poor couples and five party workers at a function in the city and galvanised the party workers with pep talk saying the AIADMK would come back to power. S Jayalalithaa also handed over a cheque for Rs ten lakh to the Dr MGR School for Deaf and Blind located in the Former Chief Minister MGR's house in Ramamvaram.
