Hyderabad, Feb 24 (UNI) On a day of tragic road accidents in Andhra Pradesh today, as 26 people, including six of a marriage party from Orissa, were killed and 66 injured in four accidents in Adilabad, Visakhapatnam, Kadapa and Krishna districts.
Police said 13 people were killed on the spot and five others injured when their jeep collided with a lorry near Bandaregadi village in Adilabad district.
The jeep was proceeding to Muktyal and the chilli-laden lorry was on its way to Adilabad from Nirmal.
The lorry driver fled from the spot.
In the second mishap, six people were killed and 35 injured, five of them seriously, when a private truck on which they were travelling overturned and fell into a gorge under Chitrakonda police station limits at Sileru, about 120 km from Visakhapatnam.
A 45-member marriage party hailing from Malkanigiri district of Orissa were returning to their village after the function when the mishap occurred.
Police said four people, including a woman, were killed and one person was injured when an autorickshaw in which they were travelling collided head-on with a lorry at Ramanagudem village in Krishna district.
The lorry was on its way to Nuzividu from Vijayawada and the auto was bound for Vattigadipadu from Nuzividu when the mishap occurred.
The lorry driver was at large.
In Kadapa district, three people were killed and 25 others injured when the lorry on which they were travelling overturned near Mallabata village.
Police said the lorry, proceeding from Pulivendula to Muddunur, overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit a motorcycle.
