New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Daler Singh grabbed a brace as Punjab and Sindh Bank (PSB) stroked out Air India (Mumbai) 5-2 while Punjab National Bank edged out Namdhari XI 4-2 via the tie-breaker in the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Tournament here today.
In a Group I encounter, Daler Singh scored in the 27th minute to put PSB in the lead. Air India (Mumbai) drew level just after half-time through a field goal by Bruno Lugun (36th).
The airmen surged into the lead in the as Girish Pimpale slammed home a fine goal in the 62nd minute.
However, Daler Singh (66th) converted a penalty corner to restore parity.
In the tie-breaker, Baljit Singh, Mandeep Singh and Kulwinder Singh scored for PSB while Air India missed all their chances as the Punjab team emergered victorious.
In the other match, Namdhari XI grabbed the lead through a field goal by Sukhjinder Singh (14th). Bikas Toppo(21st) scored for Punjab National Bank (PNB) as the teams went into the break with the score tied at 1-1.
The second half failed to produce a goal as the match rolled into the tie-breaker.
Bikas Toppo, Vikas Sharma and Gurwinder Singh hit the target for PNB. Namdhari XI missed three chances and could score only once as PNB won 4-2.
Air India (Mumbai) will face Indian Oil while Namdhari XI will take on Air India (North) tomorrow.
