Orissa to generate 41,594 mega unit by 2012
Bhubaneswar, Feb 23 (UNI) The Orissa government has set a target to generate 41,594 mega unit of power by 2012, Energy Minister S N Patra informed the Assembly today.
Replying to a series of questions, Mr Patra said the government had signed MoU with 13 Independent Power Producers (IPPs) for setting up thermal power plants in the state.
The IPPs had applied to acquire land through Industrial Development Corporation(IDCO). Only the Sterlite Energy had so far acquired 409.516 acres of land from private persons for its plant at Kureba in Jharsuguda district.
The Minister said out of the 13 IPPs, so far eight IPPs had already conducted and submitted Environment Impact Assessment study.
He said all the 13 companies had applied to the Union coal ministry for grant of coal blocks and the state government had already recommended their names to the Centre for allotment of coal blocks.
Out of the 13 companies seven had been allotted coal blocks and the rest six applications were under consideration of the union government.
The Minister said while M/s GMR Energy Ltd,M/s Nava Bharat Power (P) lTD, M/s Sterlite Energy (P) Ltd and M/s Lanco Group Ltd were alloted coal blocks in Rampia and Dip side Rampia, the M/s Monnet Ispat&Energy Ltd, M/s Tata Power Company Ltd and M/s Jindal Photo were allotted the Mandakini coal block.
