Yahya Khan associated with Jamat-e-Islami: Official

Kozhikode, Feb 23: The suspected SIMI activist Mohammed Kammakutty alias Yahya Khan, who was arrested in Bangalore, was associated with Jamat-e-Islami earlier, a top police official said today.

District Rural Superintendent of Police K Natarajan told UNI that an initial probe had revealed that Kammakutty was an activist of Jamat-e-Islami during his student days.

He said the police team had launched further investigation at his native Mukkom to find out more details about his activities during his frequent visits to the locality.

He said the Bangalore police, which arrested him on Thrusday night, did not contact the local police in connection with the investigation so far.

An engineering graduate from Regional Engineering College, now National Institute of Technology-Calicut (NITC) Kammakkutty is a native of Nellikkamparamba, Mukkam in this district.
