Imphal, Feb 23: The Manipur Legislative Assembly has unanimously decided to oppose the election manifesto of the Nagaland unit of the Congress which supported the integration of the Naga-inhabited areas.

Official sources said here today that after day-long deliberations, the Assembly, supported a resolution moved by Manipur Peoples Party (MPP) MLA O Joy last night, decided to oppose the manifesto.

O Joy, R K Anand, Dr Ng Bijoy, Dr I Ibohalbi of the MPP, Radhabinod Koijam of the NCP and others spoke on the issue during the discussion.

Mr Joy alleged that the Congress manifesto was against the interest of Manipur and it meant ''balkanisation'' of Manipur and other Northeastern states.

Former Chief Minister Radhabinod Koijam said the Congress should be informed about the decision of the Manipur Assembly.

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and other Congress leaders also opposed the manifesto of the Nagaland unit of the Congress and informed the House that he had written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and AICC in-charge of the Northeast Prithviraj Chauhan on the issue.

The people of Manipur will never accept the ''balkanisation'' of the state, the Chief Minister stated.
