New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) today welcomed the decision of the St Stephen's College's governing body to unconditionally withdraw the show-cause notices against two female teachers by OSD Rev Valson Thampu.
''Obviously, the chargesheets were served by Mr Thamphu on flimsy grounds only to distract attention from the major controversy about the ineligibility to hold the OSD's post,'' said Mr Aditya Narayan Misra, DUTA president.
Mr Thamphu had slapped showcause notices against teachers Sangeeta Luthra Sharma and Tasneem Suhrawardy of the Department of History and accused them of ''abusing the teaching space'' by indulging in ''irrelevant statements on issues that do not pertain to the course of study''.
Mr Misra said the notices were an assault on the academic freedom and freedom of expression of the teachers.
The DUTA has also urged the University to ensure removal of Mr Thampu and appointment of a regular eligible Principal.
