Srinagar, Feb 22 (UNI) UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was today given a detailed brief about the damage caused by the heaviest snowfall in 20 years in the Kashmir valley.
Ms Gandhi, who was on a day visit to state, arrived at techinical airport here this afternoon after visiting snow affected areas in Jammu region.
She was told about the damage caused by the snowfall, particuarly in the higher reaches, official sources said.
The divisional administration also briefed her about the relief and rescue operation conducted by the authorities after the snowfall.
She was told about the snow clearance operations, restoration of power and other essential services in the valley.
As many as 15 people were killed and 50 others wounded, 600 houses and other structures partially damaged and 60 fully damaged in the snowfall in the valley.
The government has already sanctioned Rs 80 lakh to meet expenditure on snow clearance.
