Sporting D'Goa drubs M United 3-0 Fernandes scores hattrick

Jamshedpur, Feb 22 (UNI) Sporting D'Goa drubbed Mahindra United 3-0 with the help of a fine hattrick by striker Victorino Fernandes in the opening match of JRD Youth Cup (Under-19) invitational football tournament at the JRD Tata sports complex here today.

The Goan team took the reigns of the match from the word go and Fernandes drew first blood in the 8th minute converting a mid-field move through a beautiful placement (1-0).

Despite playing some attacking football, Sporting failed to increase the margin in the first half. Mahidra boys tried to defend all through the match.

Sporting continued their attacking mode of play after the lemon break as a result opportunist Fernandes scored his second goal in the 54th minute with powerful shot after receiving a cross from the right flank and beating Mahindra custodian Yatish Shetty (2-0).

Mahindra tried to reduce the margin but the wayward shots by their strikers failed to find the target.

Fernandes completed his three in a row in the 90th minute through a header (3-0).
